5 Quick SEO Tips For Your Facebook Business Page

Want to be on the first page of Google, Bing & other search engines? Of course you do, but how? Okay, so SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is how we’re going to do it. Long story short, SEO is the strategic placement of key words and phrases that are searched the most online by people just like you & I. The more of these words/phrases being used on your website or social profiles, the more search engines feel your content is relevant and should be ranked higher on their pages. Higher is better because by higher, I’m talking about on the first page of Google and you know what they say… The best place to hide a dead body is on the second page of Google. Why? Because nobody goes there. I’ll discuss more in depth on SEO as a whole later but let’s start off by using these five tips to help grow your Facebook fan page.

CHOOSE THE BEST NAME FOR YOUR FB FAN PAGE — This may sound like a no brainer. However, it’s the most basic step when it comes to optimizing your brand on FB. You want your Facebook/Business name to be something simple, unique and catchy. I like to tell clients to think about big brands like Nike, Cannon, Apple, Pepsi, Exxon, Starbucks, etc. Whether you choose a name or make one up, you’ll want to take after some of the major name brands by choosing a name with two to three syllables at max to make it short, sweet & catchy. Remember, nobody knew who or what “Nike” was until the owners of Nike made it so. Make it up or choose a word already in existence, just make sure that it’s simple, unique & catchy. (Example: Apple)

CLAIM YOUR FB VANITY URL — You would be surprised how many clients I have worked with that have 1000+ FB page likes but still haven’t claimed a vanity domain. URLS are heavily weighted when being searched on Google & other search engines like Bing, Yahoo, etc. REMEMBER: You only get to choose this name once so choose wisely! (Simple+Unique+Catchy)

USE KEYWORDS IN STRATEGIC LOCATIONS ON YOUR FAN PAGE — Just like traditional websites, keyword optimization is the most fundamental form of on site SEO . The most important pieces to pay attention to are the About sections, Mission, and Company Description, since these areas are actually pulled from your fan page as SEO elements. BACKLINK TO YOUR FAN PAGE ON EXISTING CHANNELS — The more inbound links to your page, the more authoritative your page is according to Google, and you will be ranked higher. So, where it is appropriate, include a link to your fan page from your other digital channels like your website, blog and Twitter profile. This is HUGE….

OPTIMIZE FB FAN PAGE STATUS UPDATES — When posting updates to your FB wall, remember that the first 18 characters of a FB post serve as the meta descriptions. So, take advantage of the potion when FB prompts you to “Write something..” since that text will be considered the SEO title for that update. Including direct links to your small business website in your updates is also a good practice to follow. (These are FREE backlinks to your website when people share the post!!!)
